The slots assist in maintaining a consistent angle aligned with the optimal cutting edge profile. The slot with tungsten carbide is intended for initial sharpening, while the slot with ceramic rods serves for regular sharpening and polishing.
The diamond rod provides the capability to sharpen knives with smooth, serrated, and concave (recurve or kukri) blades. A hole in the housing permits the threading of a cord or lanyard.
