Salewa Brenta RDS Down Vest - Black Out
Insulated vest in Black Out. The sleeveless design provides thermal insulation around the torso while not restricting arm movement. This setup works well for trekking, walks, and other outdoor activities, as well as an extra layer of clothing on cooler days.
Warmth retention is provided by natural duck down with a fill power of 550 cuin and an 80/20 ratio. The outer layer is made of nylon in a Rip0Stop weave with a grammage of 41 g/m2, coated with a hydrophobic PFAS-free DWR finish that limits the effects of snow, light rain, and damp air.
RDS-certified insulation
The fill uses duck down with a composition of 80% down and 20% feathers. The 550 cuin fill power defines the down's ability to regain loft after compression. The fill creates a space that traps warmed air and reduces heat loss from the torso area.
The use of natural down translates into a favorable warmth-to-weight ratio. The vest can be easily packed into a backpack, bag, or luggage, and once removed, the fill returns to its original loft. The down is marked with the RDS certificate, which confirms compliance with requirements for sourcing down and feathers as well as animal welfare.
PFAS-free Rip-Stop nylon, quilted construction
The outer and inner layers are made of nylon with a Rip-Stop weave and a grammage of 41 g/m2. The material stands out for its low weight, while the arrangement of reinforcing fibers limits the risk of small tears getting larger. The fabric contains no harmful PFAS compounds. Both the outer and inner layers contain 58% recycled nylon.
The fill is placed in quilted chambers. The stitching stabilizes the down and limits its shifting during wear. This solution helps maintain an even distribution of insulation across the front and back of the vest.
The chambers create a segmented construction whose layout supports the retention of warmed air while also preserving the material's flexibility. The quilting reduces the risk of down gathering in one place and helps maintain consistent thermal properties.
Hydrophobic DWR finish
The outer material is coated with a hydrophobic PFAS-free DWR coating. The finish limits moisture absorption on the fabric surface, so water droplets remain on the outside and run off the material more easily instead of quickly penetrating its structure. The coating supports protection against light rain, snow, damp air, and accidental splashes.
2 practical pockets
There are 2 pockets on the sides secured with zippers. They provide a safe place for a phone, keys, documents, gloves, and other small items. The pockets can also be used to warm your hands. The zippers reduce the risk of the carried contents falling out.
elastic trim, high collar
The high collar protects the neck from the cold. The bottom edge of the vest and the arm openings are finished with elastic trim. They fit the body well and limit the formation of gaps through which cold air could get in.

DWR (Durable Water Repellency) is a durable waterproofing treatment that increases the surface tension of water and creates a hydrophobic coating on materials. It protects the material from rapid soaking, improves drying, provides stain resistance and increases breathability.
Rip-Stop weave protects the fabric from abrasions and tears. It is characterized by additional threads woven in at regular intervals, forming a mesh-like pattern. It provides high strength to the fabric, increases resistance to mechanical damage, especially tears.
