Njord Fire Steel Large

A traditional fire steel, commonly known as a blacksmith's steel, designed after medieval fire-starting tools.

Forged carbon steel with high hardness, flint and leather pouch included

Made from forged carbon steel hardened to a hardness of 57 HRC, for high durability and wear resistance. Comes with a flint for creating sparks and a leather pouch for easy carrying.

Directions for use

To ignite a fire using a traditional fire steel, flint and tinder are necessary. The tinder, which is a flammable substance that captures sparks, should be positioned on the edge of the flint. Strike the fire steel against a piece of attached flint. When the sparks are generated, they will land on the tinder, making it glow. Afterward, place the tinder into a dry substance such as grass, vegetable fluff, or wood shavings, and gently blow on the embers to create a flame.

    At first, you need to spend a good few minutes before the fire starter begins to produce its first sparks. It’s not as easy as it might seem, but that is due more to the need to get some practice than to the quality of the product itself. A big plus is the pouch for storing the whole set.

    Very nice product, I have nothing to complain about. :) The case is made of thinner leather, which nicely adapts to the fire striker. The striker is carefully packaged and looks high-quality. I'm really looking forward to making some tinder and trying to light it with this striker.

    I have been using this type of firestarter for years, and now I'm trying this fun activity with my grandson. Vacation is the perfect time to strike the firestarter on flint or on your fingers – it brings you closer together. The firestarter, made of high-carbon steel, sparks excellently. I still need to learn how to acquire cotton or tinder, because without these skills the firestarter will remain just a gadget. The process of sourcing materials is interesting, though a bit dirty. I wish you lots of fun.

    The fire starter is small, but it works – just clean off the grease. The flint is very small, about the size of a fingernail, not like shown in the picture, so it's better to find your own.
