These gloves disappointed me. Firstly, their sizing is different than other Mechanix models – I always bought size M, but this model turned out to be too big. Secondly, the insulation comes out when you take them off, which makes putting the gloves back on difficult. I ultimately returned them because I don't want to struggle with putting on gloves, especially with cold hands. They should be easy to put on.
Mechanix Wear Cold Weather SUB40 Tactical Gloves - Realtree Edge
Winter tactical gloves SUB40 in authentic Realtree Edge camouflage. They offer excellent protection for hands against the cold, abrasions, and cuts.
Synthetic leather with Padlock coating
The palm side of these gloves is crafted from synthetic leather and features a silicone, anti-slip Padlock coating to enhance grip stability. Extra protection against injuries is provided by 3 mm EVA foam. The embossed trigger finger with additional reinforcement allows for precise firearm operation.
3M Thinsulate insulation and waterproof membrane
The 3M Thinsulate 40 g insulation efficiently retains warmth, providing excellent thermal comfort. Moreover, the waterproof membrane ensures breathability, which helps prevent the hands from sweating excessively.
Extended cuffs, snap fasteners and loops for easy carrying
A cozy cuff ensures an optimal fit around the wrists and has been lengthened to improve protection against chilly air. Snap fasteners and loops at the wrist make it easy to secure the gloves, simplifying their transport and storage.
Touchscreen compatibility
The touchscreen-compatible feature enables the use of mobile devices without needing to take off the gloves.
EN388-2132XX and EN511 221 Standards
The gloves meet the EN388 protective standard at level 2132XX in terms of resistance to mechanical hazards, which means:
- 2: abrasion resistance (on a scale of 0–4)
- 1: cut resistance (on a scale of 0–5)
- 3: tear resistance (on a scale of 0–4)
- 2: puncture resistance (on a scale of 0–4)
- X: cut resistance – TDM test (ISO 13997) (on a scale of A–F)
- X: impact protection (test passed)
Cold protection complies with the EN511 standard at level 221, which means:
- 2: resistance to cold air penetration (on a scale of 0–4)
- 2: resistance to contact cold (on a scale of 0–4)
- 1: water penetration resistance (0 or 1)
The scales specified in the EN388 and EN511 standards define the level of glove protection: a value of 0 indicates no protection, while the highest values (4, 5) indicate the maximum level of resistance. In the case of water penetration resistance, 0 indicates penetration and 1 indicates no penetration.
In the TDM (ISO 13997) test method, letter markings are used, where A indicates the lowest level of protection, and F the highest.
The X marking indicates that a given parameter was not tested or is not applicable. The P marking indicates that the glove meets the impact protection requirements.

I bought them with chilly autumn evenings and thick fog in mind. In this area, humidity can be very troublesome, and regular tactical gloves were not enough. These worked great, both in autumn and winter.
-
As always with Mechanix – good gloves, soft and warm inside, although you have to get used to putting them on comfortably. I think they work better in autumn than in deep winter. Distinct forest camouflage. I recommend them.
-
These gloves are pretty good. I like Mechanix products, but this model isn't perfect. They have some downsides – for example, the lining inside can move when putting them on and taking them off, so sometimes it's harder to put them on and you need to adjust them. Despite that, I still recommend them.
-
These are not gloves designed for winter. They are comfortable and insulated, but in my opinion, they work better in autumn. In low temperatures, they do not provide enough warmth.
-
The gloves protect well against the cold and fit the hand perfectly, but you can't use a touchscreen with them, which is a drawback. Other than that, everything's fine. I recommend them.
-
Good and comfortable gloves, great for cold days for airsoft, but as mentioned, they're not entirely effective. They protect in mild frost, but in more severe cold your fingers freeze, and the gloves can get soaked. Mechanix is a good brand, but for winter it's worth looking for something else.
-
In my opinion, they are suitable, because if they were thicker, they might restrict hand movement, and when working with tools it's important to feel them well. I've tested them outdoors. One downside is that even though the color is nice, it's easy to overlook them when they're lying on the ground—it's better to clip them to your belt.
-
When it comes to protection against frost, I am very disappointed. Even a light frost makes my fingers freeze badly. I would prefer to return them because they do not fulfill their function.
-
Great warming gloves for winter. Ideal for mountain trips or working with firearms, although you have to get used to the thicker construction compared to models like mpact or 0.5 specialty.
-
The gloves look good, although I haven't had a chance to test their waterproofness yet. They seem durable and it's comfortable to handle equipment in them. The downside is that the thermal insulation could be better.
-
Very sturdy gloves, especially recommended for hunters—they have great camouflage, are extremely durable, and are practically indestructible. Excellent product.
-
Delivery to Ukraine took a week (courier). I bought them to be prepared for next winter—as they say, you make winter supplies in summer. The size is right, there's a function for using a smartphone, and they're comfortable for shooting.
-
Comfortable and warm, they don't leak even during intense, wet snow. Great for shooting.
-
The gloves are comfortable, warm, and completely waterproof (tested during heavy, wet snow). Very comfortable when shooting.
