Kel-Met Handcuffs on arms and legs
Kel-Met hand and leg cuffs are designed for use by uniformed services like the police and border guard, and are utilized during interventions that require effective movement restriction. They are employed to immobilize individuals, ensuring the safety of both the officers and detainees. These cuffs are commonly used during transport or in detention scenarios.
Stainless steel construction
The structure is crafted entirely from stainless steel that conforms to the PN-EN 10088-1 standard. This material is non-toxic to humans, offers high resistance to mechanical damage, and does not provoke allergic reactions. Lacking galvanic coatings like nickel or zinc ensures compliance with the EU Directive 76/769/EEC-94/27/EEC for products designed for skin contact, alongside planned national regulations.
Design and mechanism
The set is comprised of handcuffs linked by a 4 cm chain, leg cuffs connected by a 42 cm chain, and a 90 cm chain that joins both sections. All armor-type chains are affixed with rotating connectors. The cuffs are shaped to reduce the risk of abrasions and injuries under intended use.
The cuffs are constructed from steel elements featuring a double-pawl mechanism and a flexible ratchet arm. Each cuff is equipped with a ratchet lock that can secure at any position to avoid excessive tightening. Protection against accidental opening is initiated by a pin located in the key. Activation of the lock is achieved by pressing the pin, and it is released by turning the key.
Strength requirements
The cuffs comply with the following strength standards:
- breaking force of 2300 N – the force is applied in the plane of one clamp while the other remains fixed. Once the force is lifted, the device maintains full functionality.
- bending force of 500 N – the clamp is attached on the chain side; the force is exerted perpendicularly to the clamp’s plane at the end opposite to where it's attached. The clamp doesn't experience permanent deformation.
