Katadyn Explorer Water Filter

An efficient, hand-operated water filter designed for treating drinking water in demanding terrain, during extended expeditions, and while staying at bases and camps for teams of 2 to 5 people. It features a two-stage filtration system that combines a ceramic microfiltration cartridge with a service life of up to 20,000 liters of water with a replaceable activated carbon module rated for up to 500 liters. It allows safe water collection from natural sources with varying levels of clarity, from cloudy to clear.

Water purification is carried out using a hand pump that forces water through a two-stage filtration system. The system output reaches about 1 liter per minute, allowing efficient drinking water collection without the need for specialized tools. The mechanical pumping system provides constant control over the treatment process directly at the water source.

The first stage consists of a ceramic cartridge with a porosity of 0.2 micron, which traps bacteria, protozoa, cysts, microplastics, and solid sediment. The ceramic cartridge can be cleaned repeatedly in field conditions, which restores flow and significantly extends its service life (up to 20,000 liters). The second stage is a replaceable activated carbon cartridge with a capacity of up to 500 liters that reduces chemicals and chlorine and removes unwanted taste and odor. The filtering elements can be stored dry, which reduces the risk of mold forming.

The device construction has been adapted for intensive use in difficult field conditions. It uses a durable metal pump piston that ensures mechanical resistance to the loads generated during frequent water pumping. The modular design of the microfilter allows the device configuration to be flexibly adjusted to the contamination level of the water source and improves ongoing field operation.
