MultiCam was developed through a collaboration between the American company Crye Precision and the United States Army Soldier Systems Center (Natick Labs) as part of the Objective Force Warrior program in 2002. The goal was to create a universal camouflage pattern effective across different environments and under changing conditions.

The MultiCam camouflage uses a palette of seven colors to create smooth transitions between shades of green, brown, and beige. This combination lets it dynamically adapt to its surroundings — taking on green tones in forested terrain, and browns and beiges in desert regions. It performs especially well in Central and Eastern Europe during autumn and among dry vegetation. MultiCam has been recognized by military and special forces worldwide. In 2010, it was officially adopted by the United States Army as the camouflage pattern for soldiers deployed in Afghanistan, replacing the previous Universal Camouflage Pattern (UCP). The pattern is also available to civilian users, making it popular among military and airsoft enthusiasts.
