Flecktarn is a classic German military camouflage pattern, officially adopted by the Bundeswehr in 1990. The pattern consists of small, irregular spots in five colors - typically dark green, olive, brown, black, and beige. Thanks to the distribution of numerous spots and blurred boundaries between colors, Flecktarn effectively obscures the wearer’s silhouette in wooded areas, thickets, and against a backdrop of forest litter. The camouflage was designed with European climatic conditions in mind, particularly in the temperate zone. Flecktarn remains to this day the standard pattern used by the German army and other military and police units, and its effectiveness has led to numerous variants and adaptations in other countries.
