Uvex is a renowned German brand specializing in the production of personal protective equipment and sports accessories, known worldwide for the high quality of its products. The company was founded in 1926 by Philipp M. Winter in Bavarian Fürth. Initially, the business focused on producing handmade protective glasses. The name "Uvex" appeared in 1956 and is an abbreviation for "Ultra Violet Excluded," which means protection against ultraviolet radiation. The choice of this name emphasized a key feature of the brand's products – effective eye protection from the harmful effects of UV rays.
Development and Expansion
Uvex has been dynamically developing since its inception. As early as the 1930s, the company's products were used by athletes, including during the 1936 Winter Olympics and by German mountaineers during the first expeditions to Nanga Parbat. After World War II, the company underwent thorough modernization under the leadership of Rainer Winter, the founder's son, who focused on modern management and a strong, recognizable brand. In the following decades, Uvex expanded its operations to international markets, investing in new technologies and developing its product range. Both in the 70s and 80s, the brand gained global recognition thanks to the success of athletes using its equipment, especially in alpine skiing and ski jumping.
