The Magpul brand was founded in 1999 by Richard M. Fitzpatrick, a former United States Marine Corps sergeant. The company's name comes from its first product – a magazine pull. The first products were developed and manufactured at the founder's home, and their innovation quickly earned Magpul recognition in the military environment and contracts with the US Army. As early as 2002, the company completed its first order for the US Marine Corps, and in subsequent years, moved production to larger facilities and began hiring new employees.
