Perfect both for everyday use and as another exhibit for a collection – excellent quality.
Exceptionally lightweight folding nó¿ from the Slim series with an 8-centimeter locking blade. A classic from a French manufacturer with over 100 years of tradition.
The blade with a Trailing Point profile is made of Sandvik 12C27M stainless steel and polished to a high gloss. The blade is brought out with a flat-full grind close to zero-grind, which, combined with the blade's low thickness, provides above-average cutting properties. Nó¿ is ideal for filleting.
Opening the knife is possible thanks to a notch on the head, similar to the one in Victorinox pocket knives. In the open position, the head is locked with the Viroblock, patented in 1955. This is a steel ring on the handle located at the level of the axis of rotation of the head. When the knife is opened, it is rotated by a few degrees, so that it covers the blade slot in the handle, so that the head has no possibility of movement. In an analogous wayób we secure the nó¿ from accidental opening after folding.
The handle is made of paduk wood and coated with a clear, abrasion-resistant varnish. It is ergonomically contoured and provides a firm, stable grip. An additional advantage of the handle is its susceptibility to modification. The simplest would be to drill a hole on the back of the handle for a safety cable. We can also give it any texture, subject it to carving and stain it to the color of your choice.

Opinel is a French brand with a rich history dating back to 1890, originating in the Savoy region. Its creator, Joseph Opinel, designed the first pocket knife, which quickly became a symbol of everyday use thanks to its simplicity and functionality. In 1955, the company developed the Virobloc locking mechanism, later modernized, which remains a distinctive feature of its products to this day. In 1985, the brand was recognized by the Victoria and Albert Museum, which included one of Opinel's models in its list of the 100 best-designed objects in the world. The company's products also found their way into the MoMA collection in New York. Production is carried out in Chambery with care for the environment – the wood is sourced from French forests and the resulting waste is used to heat the production facilities. The range includes folding tools, kitchen utensils, cutlery, and whetstones, which have become synonymous with durability, simplicity, and the French lifestyle.

A typical Opinel – some people are fans, others not so much. I belong to the first group and plan to buy more models.
