The lanyard was purchased to attach it to a carabiner and pants. I use it at work - one lanyard is for the handcuff key, and the other for essential keys. I clip them to my belt and put them in my pocket, so they don't move around unnecessarily. If needed, I detach the appropriate lanyard and have access to the keys. Very functional gadget, I recommend it.
