Baofeng UV-17E 5W is a handheld radio with a maximum power of 5 watts. It features a DTMF keypad, dual LCD, flashlight and FM radio. It is equipped with a 7.4 V lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 1800 mAh, and charging is done via a USB-C port.

A distinguishing feature of the radio is the Dual Watch function, which allows monitoring of two channels simultaneously. This enables monitoring of two different frequencies, with priority given to the frequency with an incoming call. The radio is equipped with a Kenwood K1 type connector, allowing connection of a headset with a microphone (included in the set), a dedicated speaker-microphone, or shooting hearing protectors.

It has 99 channels, ensuring conversations are not disrupted by other users. Under favorable conditions, in open terrain, the range reaches up to 10 km. Communication is facilitated by an automatic squelch system and a transmission ending signal. The radio meets the IP54 standard, providing full protection against dust ingress and splash and light rain from any direction.

The radio can be programmed using a keypad or a computer via a USB cable. The software includes many features that facilitate grouping and identification. The VOX function allows voice activation of the radio's transmission, eliminating the need to press the PTT button.
