I have been using this type of firestarter for years, and now I'm trying this fun activity with my grandson. Vacation is the perfect time to strike the firestarter on flint or on your fingers – it brings you closer together. The firestarter, made of high-carbon steel, sparks excellently. I still need to learn how to acquire cotton or tinder, because without these skills the firestarter will remain just a gadget. The process of sourcing materials is interesting, though a bit dirty. I wish you lots of fun.

Njord traditional fire steel Small
A traditional fire steel, often referred to as a blacksmith's fire, modelled on medieval fire-starting tools.
High hardness forged carbon steel, flint and leather pouch included
Crafted from forged carbon steel with a hardness rating of 57 HRC, ensuring high durability and resistance to wear. Includes a flint for spark generation and a leather pouch for convenient transport.
Directions for use
Igniting a fire with a traditional fire steel involves using flint and tinder, which is a flammable material that catches sparks. Strike the fire steel against the attached flint, positioning the tinder (like charred cotton or other materials that can capture sparks) on the edge of the flint. The generated sparks will land on the tinder, causing it to ignite. Place the glowing tinder into dry materials such as grass, vegetable fibers, or wood shavings, then blow on the embers to kindle a flame.

The fire starter is small, but it works – just clean off the grease. The flint is very small, about the size of a fingernail, not like shown in the picture, so it's better to find your own.

The traditional Njord Medium firestarter is above all a masterful work by Kowalski. It works reliably and allows you to master the old method of making fire. A great choice for survival enthusiasts as well as an original gift.
