Mil-Tec Survival fire-starting set - Fire Steel Set

The set is fine, especially considering its price – I wasn’t expecting an elaborate kit with fuel and a burner here. I have two such kits just in case, and they serve me well. My only comments are about the quality of the strikers – it’s worth sharpening them yourself so that they spark better. Mil-Tec fire starters have always seemed more solid to me, and these included metal pieces don’t quite fulfill their function. I often use the back of a knife instead because it works better. The packaging is small and fits easily in a pocket. For safety, it’s worth sealing it with tape – I use a piece of bicycle inner tube, but tape will also increase protection against the tinder getting wet. I definitely recommend it, because I am satisfied with this product.

For me, the contents of the set are okay. For beginners it is more than enough. My only concern is the box – it's too small. After taking out the items it's hard to pack everything back in because from the factory it's packed tight. Also, it's not waterproof – everything's in small bags, but still it would be better to have a sealed container. I moved my set to a waterproof box from MFH (available at Militaria). I also added waterproof matches and now have a complete emergency kit. I recommend it for its contents. The writing comes off easily from the tin, so you can "clean" it quickly and use it for other things.

I usually don't use this type of kit, but I have bought a second one in two years because I use all the parts, and here the price is much better than buying separately. I recommend both the product and the store.

Very functional product. I added it to my backpack because it's always worth having a backup source of fire. It's lightweight, doesn't get in the way, and the whole thing at this price is great, even though the firesteel is one of the cheaper ones.

For this price it's really okay. The firesteel could use some improvement, small grooves help the effect. The box could close better. Other than that, everything is fine.
