The designation MM-14 represents an abbreviation for маскувальний малюнок (maskuval'nyy malyunok = camouflage pattern) and refers to the year 2014, when the camouflage design was officially adopted. The pattern is reminiscent of the American UCP camouflage, but the colors were selected to align with the natural hues found within Ukrainian territory. The adoption of the MM-14 camouflage pattern was a significant step in the Ukrainian army's restructuring efforts to move away from post-Soviet identity. Unofficially, the MM14 camouflage is also known as Ukrainian Pixel Camo and Ukrainian Digital Camo.
