Helikon Squall Hardshell Jacket - Black

Black hardshell rain jacket made of nylon with a three-layer TorrentStretch membrane. The waterproof rating of 30,000 mm water column and breathability of 30,000 g/m² guarantee effective protection against the rain and comfort of use. The evaporation resistance factor is RET <5. The model has been awarded the BlueSign and Oeko-Tex Standard 100 quality certificates.

TorrentStretch MEMBRANE, DWR coating, YKK zippers and VENTILATION

The TorrentStretch membrane consists of three laminated layers that effectively protect against water while allowing for air circulation. Underarm vents allow you to regulate your body temperature. The DWR (Durable Water Repellent) hydrophobic coating, free of harmful PFC, further increases moisture resistance. Taped seams and waterproof YKK AquaGuard zippers ensure tightness even in difficult weather conditions.

hood, cuffs with velcro, two-way zipper

The adjustable hood with a high collar protects against wind and rain. Velcro cuffs and waist drawstrings allow you to adjust the jacket to your body. The two-way main zipper is secured with a Prym snap. When folded, the jacket takes up little space and fits into the hood.

3 practical pockets, headphone port, Velcro panel

The hardshell has three zippered pockets: two on the outside and one on the inside, which is perfect for documents or a cell phone. There is also an earphone port on the inside. The velcro panel on the shoulder can be used to attach patches, emblems or morale patches.

I really like the jacket, it looks great and is practical – perfect for cycling, especially in the fall. If I wear something warmer underneath, I can comfortably ride all winter. The store, as always, is highly recommended, full of professionalism.

Very lightweight jacket with good waterproof parameters. It's quite stiff. Practical, long zippers under the arms. Pockets placed high. High collar and spacious hood. The best thing is, of course, the coyote color! :-)))))))

My first impression was very positive. The jacket was made with great attention to detail and looks solid in terms of finish. The cut is comfortable and fits well. The hood also fits perfectly. I spent two hours in it during a downpour, and the wallet in my pocket stayed completely dry.

The quality of this waterproof jacket is really high, and the breathability is excellent. It has waterproof YKK zippers and a large hood with a visor, which makes it essential during hikes, especially in unpredictable weather.

Advantages are lightness and great compatibility with the Patriot 2 fleece. Disadvantages: no hand pockets, it could be warmer, a mesh in the underarm vents would help to keep the material together. The material pills a lot and after a year of use I do not recommend it.

The jacket performs very well. I walked briskly for two hours, wearing a fleece underneath, with a temperature of about 4°C, and I felt very comfortable. Strong wind was not a problem. I didn’t have a backpack, I couldn’t get cold, and most importantly – the jacket really breathes well, which is a big advantage.

Great jacket, highly recommend. It's a shame it doesn't have hand pockets—they would be very useful. One tip—avoid campfires, as the smell stays on it for a very long time.

I am positively surprised by how little this jacket weighs; it's as light as a softshell. It fits great and is comfortable. I am 186 cm tall and weigh 90 kg. I chose size M, but for people with similar measurements, I suggest size L to fit a thicker fleece underneath. Now I'm waiting for rain to see how the jacket performs in wet conditions.

The jacket is called 'Hard', but that's a bit of an exaggeration. After two months of use, it began to pill and lose its qualities, especially where I carried a shoulder bag (also from Helikon-tex, which I can actually recommend because it's reliable). I expected better durability for this brand and this price. I suspect that if I wore a backpack, the entire back would be pilled, not just one side. For occasional use, it might be fine – it protects well against rain, has a deep hood, and practically placed pockets. It's very well-made, but unfortunately, it doesn't handle abrasion well.

Super jacket! I like the solid construction, low weight, and good compatibility with the Patriot 2 fleece. On the downside: no hand pockets, it could be warmer, and it would be good to have mesh in the underarm vents to keep them from opening up too much.

Helikon has surprised me positively once again—the jacket is amazing. It's very thin, so it takes up little space and is lightweight. In my opinion, it's ideal for trips in the mountains. The price may not be the lowest, but considering the quality and parameters, it's a good value compared to the competition. Highly recommend!

A very thin, lightweight hardshell. Well-fitted (though that's an individual matter). Tested in light rain—the DWR coating worked great. The only downside is the underarm vents—when open and if the material is arranged a certain way, a 'hole' appears, which improves ventilation, but it would be better to have an uncoated mesh to keep the edges together.

This is another purchase my husband made from Helikon. The advantages of this jacket are a very good cut, large ventilation openings under the arms, a well-fitted hood, high-quality zippers, and interesting color options. The downsides are the relatively high price and the lack of a stopper in the hood drawstring, so after tightening it, it returns to its original position. As for the 30,000 mm water column membrane, I believe that this value is overstated – after a night rain trip, the jacket started to soak through after about three hours.

It protects well against the wind. Light rain or drizzle is not a problem, but during heavier downpours it starts to get wet. It's nice that there are zippers under the arms. However, even a small amount of sunshine makes it easy to sweat in it.

The jacket is light and comfortable, despite the close fit (at 186 cm and 78 kg I chose size M). When folded, it takes up little space. It seems well designed; I hope the material will prove to be breathable. I'm waiting for rain to test this and will update my opinion then.
